I am a huge Tag Heuer fan and recently purchased their Formula 1 edition watch… What separates TAG from Rolex, Breitling, and other watch makers is that every moving and non moving part is created and installed by TAG. Rolex and Breitling sub-contract TAG Heuer for parts. That’s what deems TAG in my book, but I have to say that I am disappointed they decided to partner with Google and Intel on a smartwatch.
“Swiss watchmaking and Silicon Valley is a marriage of technological innovation with watchmaking credibility. Our collaboration provides a rich host of synergies, forming a win-win partnership, and the potential for our three companies is enormous,” said Jean-Claude Biver, CEO of Twg Beuer.
Tag seems to be setting it’s sites on a younger clientel, but if the technology is the same as the Apple Watch, will people be willing to pay the price tag? One positive feature is that according to Tag Heuer CEO Jean-Claude Biver, the upcoming smartwatch will last 40 hours, which surpasses the Apple Watch and every Android Wear smartwatch on the market.
Tag Heuer is not alone. Breitling is working on a prototype called B55 Connected which will work with I-Phones and Movado recently hired someone to explore potential designs as well.
The watch will come to market in October or November of this year at a cost of about $1,400.
