For those of you who have been following Dr Stone on Funimation, you’ll be happy to hear that Dr Stone Season 2 has been confirmed and the sub-title will be “STONE WARS”! I myself just finished the season finale (episode 22 “The Treasure”) last night and gotta say, the entire season was just amazing! The storyline, which takes place at about the time all hell breaks loose throughout the entire planet until the end was well thought out and executed perfectly. Had this been a live-action movie, the results wouldn’t be nearly as good as the anime.
What would happen if the Earth was thrown back into the stone age without the electricity, technology & medicine that were brought in throughout the centuries? For one, people would easily parish from things as common as Pneumonia; there would be no way to communicate with anyone outside your immediate area; the nights would be in total darkness not to mention cold. This is where Senku (aka Dr Stone) comes in! Up until I (recently) subscribed to Funimation via the Apple app store, I had never heard of Dr Stone, which is why I’m presuming others may not have heard of this gem either. That said, I’m not going to dive into details and allow you to have the best possible time watching the entire season on your own.
What I will say is that the anime was inspired by the Manga written by Riichiro Inagaki & illustrated by Boichi (Mujik Park) who’s efforts resulted in the manga being launched March 16th 2017 on a popular weekly manga anthology in Japan… By September 2018, while at Anime Boston, Viz Media announced they would be showcasing the manga and by 2019 the manga was animated by TMS Entertainment, which is what can be found on Funimation. This was all in a span of two years and since its inception, the manga has won the 64th Shogakukan Manga Award (2019), ranked number 15 on a list of top manga for male readers, ranked number 17 best manga in 2019, Crunchyroll listed Dr Stone in their list of Top 25 Best Anime of the 2010s.
