There’s been a whole lot of talk about their being a 6 Million Billion Dollar Man Reboot. What I hear is Mark Wahlberg will be playing Lee Major’s character: astronaut Steve Austin who after what should’ve been a fatal accident (considering we’re talking about the 1970s here) involving lost limbs and a left eye, was given a second chance at life for a whopping $6 million operation that involved replacing those limbs with bionic legs, arm, and camera eye. In lieu of the operation, Steve Austin will work as a secret agent for a Top Secret Branch in US Government.
I remember the reruns, and recall there being 100 episodes that ran between 1974 thru 1978, a few “made for TV” movies, not to mention a few failed attempts at bringing it to the big screen (1995, 2002, & 2006).
Talks about the movie, which has been re-titled “$6 Billion Man” began leaking in November of last year claiming the film would start rolling by early 2015 for a 2016 release, but there’s been no word of film ever rolling, and we’re already entering May.
In the end there could be a reason why the show failed to become a BIG Screen Movie, and that could be because there may be some remake ideas that should probably be shelved… In the back… Somewhere deep. 2007’s Bionic Woman, which was a remake of the original show was cancelled only after a few episodes. Let’s face facts, the original wasn’t that great to begin with and if you’re going to do a remake, you better swing for the fences and that ball better fly out the stadium with lights exploding in the background because anything less isn’t gonna cut it. And this may be the issue with the $6 Million Man reboot. Maybe they should scrap the idea and create a Deus Ex Trilogy instead!
