Moon Knight who has been a Marvel character since 1975, first appeared on Werewolf By Night #32 “Eye of the Beholder”. How important is Moon Knight? The last 9.8 CGC graded Werewolf by Night #32 comic book sold in February of 2019 for $56k.
Moon Knight History
Moon Knight, formerly known as The Fist of Khonshu, was once a Marine by the name of Marc Spector who later became a mercenary for the CIA… It was during this phase in his life that he came across the temple of Khonshu (The Moon God) in Egypt as he was dying of being physically beaten to death by Ronald Bushman, his right-hand man.
Upon Marc’s death on Khonshu’s alter, he returned subsequent to seeing Khonshu in a vision involving Khonshu to utilize his body as his vessel. Marc would still be in control of his faculties, but he would have at his disposal Khonshu’s powers. Upon agreeing on Khonshu’s proposition, he is revived!
In “History of the Marvel Universe” #6, published December 18th, 2019, Galactus, AKA The Seeder of Worlds, AKA The Devourer of Worlds is about to end the current Marvel Universe in order for the next universe to begin by way of becoming the next big bang… Before going supernova, he gives his one and only friend Franklin Richards who is not only a mutant with beyond Omega level powers, but who Galactus has known for trillions of years a full recount of the past, the present, but most importantly what has yet to happen (but that’s in the works at Marvel). One of those tantalizing tidbits was about The Return of Khonshu or more specifically “The Age of Khonshu”! This of course involves (You Guessed It…) Moon Knight.
Moon Knight Disney+ Series
Word has gotten around that Moon Knight is slated to receive its own series on Disney+; however, it’s also to only have less than a few episodes written. If you also happened to have heard the same and looking forward to experiencing the series, you might have to wait a while.
Production is not set to begin until this coming November, so it’s release is not expected until 2022. It’s been speculated that Jeremy Slater who brought The Umbrella Academy to Netflix will be head writer in the series. But wait, we’re talking about the same writer who worked on Josh Trank’s terrible Fantastic Four reboot starring Miles Teller, Michael B Jordan, Kate Mara & Jaime Bell.
I for one am a fan of Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy, and feel Slater redeemed himself on the series, but that movie was a heck of a mess that was really hard to get off the wall. I’m pulling for him and hope he does Moon Knight a world of justice.
So far the series is said to really stick to the character’s script with first introducing Moon Knight as Marc Specter before being saved by Khonshu and becoming Moon Knight.
Yes, it seems Moon Knight is being brought in to be the next big character in the Marvel Universe, but not entirely for 2020.
